I am looking for a childcare center around the Seng Kang area. Outside Seng Kang is fine too. Preferably Vegetarian. Sick of hearing non-vegetarian childcare centres telling me that they will feed my child peanut butter sandwiches or jam sandwiches for lunch. Let me know if you have any to recommend.

I think you can check with Vivan. If I'm correct Kampung Senang has a veg child care.

This one sounds good & near Sengkang:
@One Montessori Vegetarian Childcare Centre
Seletar Hills Estate, 19A Jalan Kechubong, Singapore 799380
6481 3850
http://www.gothere.sg/maps#q:19A%20Jln%20Kechubong

My daughter went to:
ABC Children's Place
878 Tampines Ave 81 #01-308, 520878, Singapore
p: 67858586 f: 67855085
It's a humble little place with no aircon... but the children were kept happily busy doing studies, play, rest and community service. They do so much learning that the school pleads with the parents not to give them anymore work at home, and my daughter actually found P1 and Chinese L1 super easy in a SAP school! It's a childcare initiative by the Amitaba Buddhist Ctr with Nepalese monks visiting throughout the year. I was OK with my daughter being exposed to different religions. Not sure what it's like 10 yrs later!!!

There's one near my house but whatever it is, DO NOT ever go there. I can't remember the name (that's how bad our experience was) but it's inside those terrace houses..happy kids vegetarian or something (the name)...
Uniform is a yellow collared top and red checkered bottoms.
It's near Compassvale LRT station..think you should know the area...

Before enrolment, the principal will promise you everything. After you sign up, they don't bother. Meals were terrible too..said they give a varied diet..the only item that changed was the carbs. Everyday, it's the same type of veggies with porridge/kway teow/pasta.

Worse part was, my nephew came home saying "teacher beat. teacher beat." multiple times. A 1.5yrs old kid definitely does not know how to lie..

email you the rest of the terrible things that they did.

Any other parents staying in Sengkang, please please please..do not send your kids there to be bullied. Maybe they won't hit the older kids..only the younger ones, thinking that they don't know how to communicate and tell the parents. Thank goodness my nephew is smart enough..

Montessori is good..in terms of their teaching method..they may be more expensive..but they teach your kids the right things..there's a vegetarian branch off jalan kayu if I'm not mistaken..

Hi raindance,

You may try Kampung Senang's Whole Child Nurture at Kovan. They do have transport (subjected to availability @ $150/month).

They are into Waldorf education, and children are served organic vegetarian meals (9 am : salad, one tiny piece of apple and rice milk; 12.30 pm: soup, rice, vege, tofu etc and tea-break around 3 pm: dessert like green bean with bun etc)

I suggest you to visit the centre as some of my friends who went there does not like the environment. It is a private house within walking distance from Kovan mrt, about 10 mins (I walk slow).

The teachers taught story-telling using wooden puppet, all toys are made with wood, children are exposed to drawing using paintbrush, and they are free to roam around in the garden (they are taught to do some gardening/ watering of plants), tricycle/bicycle for them to ride) and lots of singing!

My boy will sing and sing during bedtime until I can't take it.

Sorry about your case, xinyi. My bbsitter's son used to went there too (4 years ago), and guess what? They served the children with mock char siew (made of flour) day after day until he came home vomit.

Oh my goodness, that childcare ctr should have its license suspended! Since when was refined, coloured and fried food a part of healthy diet for young children??!!!

I thought since a special diet is served, it's mandatory to have a dietician plan the meals or give recommendations. At least the childcare my daughter went to had, and the principal reassured us a dietician made the fundamental recommendations for the cooks to follow, so there's nothing to worry about. The principal even gave parents advise on what to give children when at home.

Vomitting can be a sign of malnutrition or accumulation of food toxins, among other things, of course.

XY, have you ever written to the Min of Ed or Health nicely so a check can be done? Feel so bad for the innocent tiny tots and unsuspecting parents :-(

vegemight, we did consider informing MCYS and MOE about it...but the lazy rabbit dragged and dragged....heex..now that you mention it, I might include HPB too...

Will double check with vivien separately if we are talking about the same centre first..

My nephew has eczema and before enrolment, they promised to apply all the creams for him..ended up, they didn't. He fell sick every 2-3 weeks..and when he didn't attend school, not once did the school call to find out what happened. The only time they called, it was to find out if we wanted to let him go on an excursion..if yes, could we kindly make payment asap. $%#%#^$

Always lied to us that he finished his milk feeds when it was obvious that he didn't.

And when we withdrew, citing reasons that he kept falling sick, guess what the principal suggested? We should give him some cod liver oil!!!!! My god....she's a principal at a vegetarian childcare centre!!!!! *angry*

A lot of other things happened and I believed they didn't handle or treat the kids with tender loving care...yes, it is hard to look after so many kids..and it's easy to lose your patience..but they should never ever hit a child. It's considered as corporal punishment under MOE's guidelines I believe..

raindance, check out vivien's recommendations...and spread the word to all other mommies not to send their kids to the happy little kids (or whatever the name is) centre..
I'll find out the name and bring it up to the relevant authorities..tsk tsk...

Any others who had or know of those who had bad experience with this childcare centre?

LOL!! I like this..but it's music to your ears mah...singing is better than screaming away..heex..(unless your boy's singing is similar to screaming..)

No guazi, only at Sengkang, Hougang, and Punggol.

If I am not wrong, their Tampines after-care will be converted to be a child centre too.

BTW, Oaternergy got another brand, 100% oatmilk at $42. I spotted it at Pungol Plaza, so my boy finally can omit soy intake from the other oatmilk brand from Oaternergy (the one that cost $39.80).

guazi, there's a bus from sengkang to khatib...965..it's a 20min ride. =))
So if really need to, you can pick up your child from sengkang and take a bus home.

I don't think guazi can do so as she works. If you can pick up your son personally, you can do so by 7 pm. However, if you are using their transport, they will send him back before 5 pm. My boy reaches bbsitter's house around 4.30 pm. They don't believe in long hrs of "learning" for the children, so do I. Imagine my boy getting sick once a month, even when he can reach home at 4.30 pm. -_-"

I guess he's luckier. He had ezcema too, and the teacher helped me to apply 3 types of cream on him daily, as instructed. However, as there's activity going on every now and then and children were told to drink water at only specific time, he fall sick easily.

I still feel that children 4 yrs and above is the right time to be sent to child centre since most of them have to wake up by 7 am and only get to nap once around 1 pm. What do you think, Mazefang?

On a side note, my boy no longer attend child centre although he had fully recover from bronchitis asthma. The chinese physician that Mazefang recommend in one of his thread were very strict and there are certain types of vegetables which he could not take as he's on herbs medicine (the physician is a vege :)) hence sending him to child centre may prove to be difficult for the teacher to monitor the type of vege cook daily.

At the bbsitter's house, he normally nap 2 hrs in the morning and another 2 hrs in the afternoon, but at centre, only got to nap once. I chose health over anything ...

Rabbit, yea Vivien is right, I’m working, so not possible to bring my boy by bus.

Vivien, so meaning you pay both your bbsitter and the CC centre? Hey you mentioned that your boy has eczema, did you try prebiotics for him? it can cure eczema and good for bb. I ate natren plus prebiotics when I was still nursing and my son’s eczema cured. BTW, your boy naps 4 hours in a day? What time does he go to bed at night?

Do you want to consider a childcare centre at Ang Mo Kio? From Khatib to Ang Mo Kio then to Raffles Place for you........

guazi, eczema cannot be cured..it can only be controlled..while prebiotics can help to control and improve the condition, I'm guessing your boy was lucky enough to outgrow it. (and of course, giving him the prebiotics then helped too!)

My dermatologist advised my cousin to take it weeks before she delivered her second child and to continue taking it so that it will be passed on in her breastmilk..reason is because these 'good bacteria' are beneficial to the baby during natural birth (in any case, cousin had a C-section..ha)
But I guess when she continued with it, my niece benefitted from the breast milk. heh..

I can't remember why prebiotics can help to improve and control eczema though..

Hui Ming is a childcare ctr. It's also one of the cheapest. S$330/mth. U only need to pay S$ 30 if u r a full time working mother. But the waiting list is very long.
An other one is at blk 10x, it's also around the price. The ctr is owned by a few indian women but operated by chinese. The in-charge there n their teachers r very nice. They serve good vege meals n good education too. I can check the exact address/tel if u r interested.

Rabbit, oic.. yea I’m thinking maybe my boy’s one is not eczema but is the detox process that a baby needs to go through after vaccination. Anyway, can be lots of reasons that cause rashes in babies. His face got so much rashes on his full month lor!

Yea, I only learned about prebiotics after my son was born and having eczema liked rashes. Only then I started to consume so that it’s passed to my boy. What your cousin did was absolutely correct! Because prebiotic improve the digestive system, then immune system, etc.. I think it’s the whole internal process in the body I guess?

Sally, thanks for your help, is the centre at AMK too?

I'm guessing that the rashes on his face were dribble rash - caused by his saliva. =))
Ya, lots of causes for rashes..my dermatologist said to determine if it's heat rash, just leave the child in an air conditioned room..if the rashes go away, then it's probably heat rash..(but a PD told us that there's no such thing as heat rash.. =X anyway, I don't like her..so I shall not believe her. hahas!)

Yupps you're right about the prebiotics..I can't remember whether it's the prebiotic or probiotic...they serve as food for the micro-organisms (good bacteria) in our digestive system..
