Hi all, Whilst at Taste of Natural last week (I'm a regular there for lunch!), I noticed that they've teamed up with Delcie's Desserts to offer a range of vegetarian (eggless) CNY goodies including pineapple tarts and cookies. They have some samples to try at ToN - I particularly liked the 'green pea' cookies - never come across these before! More information on the CNY goodies available on Delcie's website: http://www.delciesdesserts.comIf you'd like to sample some of Delcie's vegan creations, do consider signing up for the next Singapore Vegetarian Meetup event, on Saturday 30th January, at Taste of Natural. We'll be enjoying a great lunch, followed by a dessert sampling session. More on the event here: http://www.meetup.com/singapore-vegetar ... /12351599/Neil P.S. I have no connection with ToN or Delcie's Desserts other than being a happy customer Just very glad to be able to let others know about their wonderful products - hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

It's "vegan" desserts, but their website only says "eggless" in the product description. Eggless doesn't mean dairy-free right? Anyone who's good at baking knows if those types of cookies use any dairy products? TIA!

Hi Blackmoon,
At the risk of sounding like I have some vested interest, I was a little concerned about the mention of low cholesterol in the baked products. Unless they are using coconut oil, I would believe that there would be some butter or other forms of dairy (like milk powder) used in the products. I would think that the pineapple tarts would be made with butter as they are traditionally. The rest might use oil but again depends based on the low cholesterol remark.
I think the best would be to check with them directly.
Again, this comment is not made to criticize or turn away potential customers. Please check with the bakery directly.

I checked with Delcie - here's her reply! "All my CNY cookies are vegetarian, meaning eggless only. I still use dairy products in it. However, for the cake sampling event, I will be making vegan cakes where I use either coconut oil or canola oil (zero cholestorol oil) to make my cakes. Plus, I will be using my newly Japan imported vegan cream to decorate my cakes. This will be one of a kind as quality is assured by me. No eggs, no dairy. Plus my bakery is certified Halal. I use organic based flour, mainly unbleached and wholewheat flour and unrefine sugar. Out of 100%, 80% of my ingredients are organic. "

Yeah, I always think cookies and cakes do used some form of milk or butter so I tend to stay away from them to be safe. However, I noticed most merchants in SG emphasize on eggless, so after a while I get confused. Coconut oil has no cholesterol?!?! Haha...I really don't know much about oils.

Looks like it's going to be a cookie-less CNY as usual. Hmm...so what's for sampling is not the same as what they are selling?!?! Interesting.

coconut oil has cholesterol. It is perhaps the only vegetable with cholesterol.

There are both good and bad cholesterol in different food. For coconut oil, it is saturated oil but contains good cholesterol which benefit the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which is know to prevent heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. It also helps to aid weight loss. But try to use virgin coconut oil as it's tasteless and has no smell. BTW, delcie's cakes looks really interesting on her website. Maybe I'll order one for my brother's birthday. Keep all of you posted on the verdict!

If I didn't remember wrongly from something I read, coconut oil is good, but it's the high heat cooking that turns it harmful. Oil extracted via the cold-press method should be very healthy or just eat the fruit itself

Early this year I couldn't find them at Taka so I assume they're not around anymore. Then I was told they've moved to Raffles MRT but they're not there either. I really wanna try their vegan brownies. Does anyone knows where they are?
