Chinese Five-Spice Rice

Ingredients:
200g rice, washed and drained
400ml water
1 tablespoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
½ teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
½ teaspoon salt
toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Chinese five-spice is a mixture of ground spices usually consisting of equal parts of cinnamon, cloves, fennel seed, star anise and Szechwan peppercorns. By adding Chinese five-spice, the cooked rice gains a lovely aroma
1.Combine all the ingredients in an electric rice cooker, mix well and turn on the rice cooker.,br/>
2.When done, leave the cooked rice to rest, covered, for 5-10 minutes. Fluff with a fork, sprinkle on some toasted sesame seeds and serve hot.
Tip
1. To toast sesame seed, .heat frying pan, add sesame seeds and stir occasionally to make sure they don’t burn. When they begin to brown lightly, transfer to a plate and leave to cool. Store the sesame seeds in a glass jar in a cool, dark place.
2. To roast sesame seeds, spread the sesame seeds on a baking sheet and roast them in an oven for 10 minutes, until lightly browned. Leave to cool and store the sesame seeds in a glass jar in a cool, dark place.
